A. R., as he was known, was a sergeant in the Ohio Volunteer Infantry, Co. I 59 during the Civil War. He was a son of James Wesley Stockwell and Sarah Dillon. He married first to Harriet Roush on Christmas Day, 1864. After she died in 1901, A. R. remarried to Rachel Annie Cailey, c. 1905.
