Times Picayune, 3 Jun 1944
JOHNSON - At Hotel Dieu on Friday, June 2, 1944, at 8:45 o'clock a.m., WILLIAM HENRY JOHNSON, beloved husband of the late Ellen Ryan, father of Mrs. Thomas Stanborough, Mrs. Clarence Bethancourt and William H. Johnson, also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren, age 78 years, a native of New Orleans, La. Relatives and friends of the family, also New Orleans Clerks and Checkers I.L.A. Local No. 1497 and officers and employees of Lykes Brothers Steamship Company, are invited to attend the funeral, which will take place from the Leitz-Eagan Funeral Home, 2241 Magazine Street, corner Philip, on Saturday, June 3, 1944, at 2:00 o'clock p.m. Religious services at St. Catherine Sienna Church, Bonnabel Blvd. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery.

The Johnson-Ryan plot, purchased by WILLIAM HENRY JOHNSON, is located at 24 Thistle Aloe Orange in Cemetery G. It sustained significant damage during Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately, someone went through afterward and made things even worse, removing broken markers so that they could not be documented and recreated, and sloppily painting over marble with white paint. Refurbishment is needed.

Individuals interred in this plot include:
1) James Ryan, father-in-law of William H. Johnson and father of Nellie Ryan Johnson
2) Anna Cahill Ryan, mother-in-law of William H. Johnson and mother of Nellie Ryan Johnson
3) William H. Johnson, purchaser of the plot (and thus the name "Johnson") and husband of Ellen (Nellie) Ryan
4) Ellen (Nellie) Ryan Johnson, wife of William H. Johnson
5) John F. Ryan, son of James and Anna Ryan and brother of Nellie Ryan Johnson
6) Matthew J. Ryan, son of James and Anna Ryan and brother of Nellie Ryan Johnson
7) Sandra Leone Johnson, wife of William H. Johnson, Jr. (who was the son of William H. and Nellie Ryan Johnson)
8) Ella (Nellie) Johnson Bethancourt, daughter of William H. and Nellie Ryan Johnson
