Eulogy written and read at the funeral by his older brother, John T. Reiter:

Kenneth Lynn Reiter, Kenny as we all called him, was the second child of Claude Kenneth and Shirley Ann Reiter. He was born Dec 22nd 1955 in Corpus Christi, Texas and grew up with his three brothers and "favorite" sister in Port Aransas. He went to HG Olsen Elementary School and later Aransas Pass High.

Kenny was blessed with a keen intellect and witty character, and as a result he made many friendships, which endured throughout his life. He always had a way of tossing out some thought provoking statement; then raising an eyebrow to see if you got his point. He loved to have long philosophical discussions and if you weren't careful, they could continue into the wee hours as many of us have experienced.

He was also a very talented artist, articulate writer and would spend many an hour researching and writing. Later in his life he dedicated his time to our Lord and his work. I can remember him reciting ancient texts, manuscripts and history as if he was really there; nothing escaped his eye or keen memory. To further his research he was teaching himself ancient Hebrew and had many Hebrew texts he was studying in search of life's meaning and to further his understanding of God.

Kenny was also a very talented musician having played the clarinet in grade school, but he found his real talent in the acoustic guitar. He loved playing and could listen to a song and a moment later he was playing it. The one prized possession he allowed himself to have was his Martin Guitar. He had spent all the money he had saved, sacrificing everything else to get it and would only use a tuning fork as he believed it was the only way to obtain perfect tuning. To this day he still possessed it after many decades. I can remember him telling me the older and more battle worn it got the better it was; kind of like my brother.

When Kenny was a young man and impressionable like many of us, he was always searching for the answers to who am I? Why am I here? What purpose do I serve? It was during this time I remember one particular TV show came out that made a keen impression on him. I believe it was Kung Fu with David Carradine. Kenny was so impressed that a person had given up all material things and went in search of knowledge and this was what he wanted to do. So, before too long Kenny was on his quest for knowledge. He had also taken up Kung Fu and had more moves on him than an alley cat. I can remember him behind my Grandfather's house continually breaking bricks with his hands and then hiding the broken pieces so he wouldn't get caught; which he eventually did.

As my brother continued his search for meaning to his life, he met a lovely young lady who would later become his wife and mother of his five children. It seemed Kenny had finally found the meaning he had searched for and dearly loved his family. I can still remember arriving at my brother's house many a time with five kids bouncing about and in would walk Kenny and discover something one of them had done and left; he'd just raise the proverbial eyebrow and say "what now"? His brothers and sister were forever doing the family picnics, gathering for holidays and creating memories. No event was complete without Kenny and his family. Like many of us, all he wanted to do was grow old with his family.

Somewhere along the path of life Kenny took up bass fishing, of course you knew I'd get to this subject, anyway, I can remember him hiking on full moon nights into snake and mosquito infested woods looking for the hidden pond which possessed the next Mythical Guinness Record bass. Once I went with him, against my better judgment, and along the hike in he tells me there "might" be a few ‘moccasins'. A few!! We rigged up with topwaters and every cast you would hook a really nice bass and just before landing it, a huge cottonmouth, like some creature from the black lagoon, would pounce on it and drag it back into the depths of the black pond. We never landed one. On the way back to the car he informed me with the usual raised eyebrow under the full moon, while swatting mosquitoes that we were "pioneers in catch and release".

Somewhere along the road of life Kenny's health began to deteriorate and in 2009 he was diagnosed with kidney cancer. With his sister's help, whom he affectionately called "Tidder Gal", he went through life saving surgery to remove a cancerous kidney and ever the optimist he took it as a minor bump in the road of life. Then in November 2010, just as he thought life had returned to normal, he got sick again as before and was told the cancer had returned. Kidney cancer has no known cure with conventional medicine. He was told it had spread to his pancreas and lung but again, ever the optimist and with his sister by his side, and his family rallied around him, he would fight the battle that he would ultimately lose and Our Lord called him home Saturday, 18th June at 9:17 am.

Kenny was preceded in death by his Mother Shirley in 1977 and is survived by his five children:

Son Sean, and his wife Amber – grandson, Ethan and a grandbaby still in the oven, of Portland, Texas
Daughters Stephanie and Sarah of Rancho Santa Margarita, California.

and many Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nieces, Nephews and dear friends. He is loved and will be dearly missed and one day when we are all called home we'll be reunited.
