Eldest of five children of Henry M. and Marie Volsen Meyer, he married Doris R. Hall on Dec. 17, 1939 in Cropsey. They had four sons.

They ran Meyer Custom Harvesting and Meyer Repair in Sibley, IL.

In 1959, they changed the Fourth of July celebration in Sibley by bringing the fireworks display that they had been showing at their rural home into town because there was such a crowd. This became an area event that continues to this day (managed by a committee) with food and, often, games with prizes for the children.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Sibley.
