Elmer (Boost) Bastian, 72, died at Aurora Borealis Nursing Home in Aurora, Monday, March 1, 1965 where he had been a patient for three weeks.

He was born in Squaw Grove Township August 30, 1892, the son of Louis and Wilhelmina Stahl Bastian. He was educated in the Hinckley area and operated a grocery business in Hinckley with his brother for many years.

“Boost” was a great lover of children and was greatly beloved by them. For generations Hinckley children have received a dime from “Boost’ each time he would see them on the street. Even the children of travelers were not forgotten. In later years he gave them a dime and a penny—“the dime to save and the penny to spend.”

Mr. Bastian was a member of the Hinckley Lodge 301 AF&AM and Wade Post 598 The American Legion.

He was in the Army serving overseas from May 1918 to August 1919.

Survivors include his brothers, Everette of Hinckley and Harold, Sr. of Aurora. He was preceded in death by six brothers and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the Nash Chapel with the Rev. Alfred Patten officiating. Burial will be in Oak Mound Cemetery. Masonic services will be held at 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the chapel. Pallbearers will be Harold Bastian, Jr., Gene Bastian, Charles Bastian, Glen Bastian, Paul Bastian and Ben Bastian.

Friends may call a the Chapel from 7 p.m. Saturday until time of service.
