Willis Waterman enlisted as a Private in Company K of the Fourth Michigan Volunteer Infantry on October 22, 1863, for 3 years service. He was killed in action at Wilderness, Virginia, May 5, 1864.

Willis was a son of Erastus Waterman and Nancy Glassier. He was a twin to Wallace Delbert Waterman.

Willis's name is on the Riverside Monument in Vassar.
