The Rev. Philip J Gannon, pastor of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, died at 3:45 this morning at Sisters Hospital, where he underwent surgery yesterday. He was 62 years old, being born Feb. 6, 1902, in county Leitrim, Ireland.
Father Gannon had pastored St. Patrick's Church since June, 1956, coming here from St. Stephen's parish at Indian Creek, Mo. He succeeded the late Monsignor John J O'Neill, who retired at that time, but remained as pastor-emeritus of the church.
Receiving his education in England, Father Gannon completed his theological studies at Kenrick Seminary in SAt. Louis. Hw was ordained a priest June 9, 1929.
Survivors include four sisters, Sisters Cephas, R.S.M., SS. Peter and Paul Convent, West Warwick, R.I.;Mrs Kathryn McKay and the Misses Teresa and Agnes Gannon, all living in England.
Services for the Rev. Philip J Gannon, 62, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with a pontifical high mass celebrated by the Most Rev. Charles H Helmsing,bishop of the Kansas City-St. Joseph diocese. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery.
The body will be removed from the H.O. Sidenfaden & Son mortuary at 6Sunday evening and taken to St. Patrick's Church to lie in state until 10p.m. and for the recitation of the parish rosary at 8. During the rosary members of the 4th degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 5067 will serve as honor guards.
four rosaries will be recited today at the Sidenfaden mortuary chapel: 3 p.m. by the junior and senior Legion of Mary of st. Patrick's parish,4p.m. bt the parish Altar Society, at 7 p.m. by the parish Holy Name Society, and at 8 p.m. by the Bishop LeBlond Council of the Knights of Columbus.
