Raymond "Ray" Harold Forrey
1914 - 2005 (90)

Ray passed away peacefully at home on April 8, 2005. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2004.

Ray was born in Boise, Idaho, on Sept. 20, 1914. He was the son of Etta and Henry Forrey. Ray had five sisters and three brothers. Ray left the family farm in Kuna, Idaho, to follow a lifelong career in the timber industry.

Ray's first job was loading logs with a cable crane, he quickly learned this skill and was considered the best crane operator in the Northwest winning several competitions at logging shows. While working in Idaho, Ray married Mildred Linton in Mountain Home, Idaho, in 1937. They were married for 48 years, Mildred passed away in 1985. They lived in New Meadows and Orofino following the work in Idaho.

In 1950 Ray bought his first log truck and became a Gyppo logger. In 1953 they moved to Arcata, Calif., where Ray worked in the red woods. Then in 1955, he moved to Troy and went to work for J. Niels Lumber Co. The following year he moved to Libby to be closer to the mill. Ray worked in Libby until 1962 when he went to work for Douglas Studs in White Sulphur Springs. In 1964, when Douglas Studs moved their mill to South Fork, Colo., Ray went with them living in South Fork and Del Norte. While in Colorado Ray purchased a cable crane and went back to loading logs rather than hauling. Then in 1968, Ray moved to Townsend where he worked until retiring in 1986.

Ray married Marion Freedland in 1988. They became snow birds for 17 years splitting their time between Townsend and Yuma, Ariz. During that time they made many new friends and many memories.

Ray is survived by his wife, Marion; his son, Ernie Forrey (Linda Huth); grandson, Eric Forrey (Lacey); granddaughter, Heather Quinn (Glenn Sukut); great-grandson, LeCoi Sukut and sister, Fern Mellor. Ray's sisters, Alma Forrey, Hazel Rhodes, Margaret Huntsinger, Lena Cummings and brothers Leonard, Mearl and Paul, all preceded Ray in death.

Ray was a loving husband, father and good friend to many. An easygoing man who warmed the hearts of many… Ray will be missed.
