James H. Roach Sr., 73, of Mount Zion died 11:35 a.m. Sunday (Sept. 24, 1995) in St. Mary's Hospital. Mr. Roach was born in Beattyville, Ky., on April 21, 1922, the son of Harrison and Florence Johnson Roach. He was a member of the Stephen Decatur Lodge 979, a past patron of Decatur 111 Order of the Eastern Star, past Watchman of Shepherds of Mecca Shrine 53 White Shrine of Jerusalem of Decatur, past Royal Patron Leighton Court 1 Order of the Amaranth of Decatur, past Grand Royal Patron of the Grand Court Amaranth of Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Ribbon, World War II Victory Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Korean Occupation Ribbon. He married Alice Roney Bond in 1971.
Surviving are his wife, Alice; sons, Donald E. Roach and wife Jean of Decatur; James H. Roach Jr. and wife Billie of Decatur; stepson, George W. Bond and wife Marle of Latham; stepdaughters, Mary A. Schwartz of Murphysboro; Betty J. Bond of Normal; brothers, Harrison Roach and wife Marlene of Fairfield, Ohio; Beuhl Roach and wife Louise of Hamilton, Ohio; Orville Roach and wife Jean of Seven Mile, Ohio; Eugene Roach and wife Jeanete of Hamilton, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, one sister and one brother.
