Mary E. "Great Nana" (Abaray) Kaus, 91, a lifelong Oakmont resident, died Monday, June 20, 2011, in Oakmont. She was born Feb. 22, 1920, in Verona, to the late Michael and Mary Abaray. She was the wife of the late John M. Kaus; mother of the late John M. Kaus; mother-in-law of Jeanne L. Kaus; sister of Vivian Laghi and the late Michael Abaray, Helen Jacoboski, Frances Torchia and Ann Wycich; grandmother of Judene (Jamie) Sykes, Justine (David) Wallace and John M. Kaus Jr.; great-grandmother of J.D. and Alexis Sykes and Jacob John Wallace; devoted friend of Renee Howard; and many nieces and nephews. Nana will be remembered for her baking and famous fudge. She was a lifelong member of St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Oakmont, and the rosary group. Mary was also a member of the SNPJ Lodge all her life. Friends and relatives will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at BURKET-TRUBY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND ALTERNATIVE SERVICES INC., 421 Allegheny Ave., Oakmont. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Oakmont, with Father Frank Kurmisky officiating. Interment will follow next to her husband, John, at Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Penn Hills. The family suggests memorials to St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, 387 Maryland Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139.
