U.S. Congressman. Moving to Kentucky as a young man, he became editor of the Glasgow Times in 1878. He was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1896, a member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives in 1896 and served as state prison commissioner (1900-05). In 1905, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-ninth Congress, serving until 1907. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his newspaper activities and was Postmaster at Glasgow, Kentucky, (1913-22).
