She was born in the Whitecreek neighborhood in Wayne township, Bartholomew County, Indiana; her parents' land abutted (to the southeast) the land where St. John's Lutheran Church stands. It was there that she was baptized as a baby and confirmed on 25 Mar 1877.
She married Heinrich Wilhelm "William" Middendorf on 6 Apr 1882 in St. John's Lutheran Church., and they made their home nearby, in Wayne township.
Charlotte and William had 10 children: Albert, Louis, Clara, Karl, Ed, Emil, Fred, Martin, John, and Harry. Clara died at the age of 18 months; Karl at age 20 of tuberculosis; and Fred at age 19 from pneumonia.
Charlotte must have had rheumatic fever, probably as a child, which affected her heart. She died at the age of 45; her death certificate states that the cause of death was Rheumatic pericarditis.
She had six children of minor age when she died. I believe that her sister, Mary, had helped with the children before Mary's marriage in 1892. Family history has it that Mary had said that if she were to look after children, it may as well be her own.
Charlotte and William were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jonesville, and it was in that cemetery where Charlotte was laid to rest.
