Edward John Schema, age 80, of Faribault, died Friday, September 6, 2002 at the District One Hospital in Faribault, following a sudden illness.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 10, at 10:30 a.m. from the Divine Mercy Catholic Church, St. Lawrence Campus in Faribault, with the Rev. Kevin Finnegan, pastor, officiating. Interment will be at the St. Lawrence Cemetery in Faribault.
Visitation will be at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home in Faribault on Monday from 4 - 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday for one hour prior to the services at the church.
Edward John Schema, the son of John and Mary (Pineur) Schema, was born on October 29, 1921 in Walcott Township, Rice County. He was raised on his family's farm and attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and graduated from Bethlehem Academy High School. He was united in marriage to Lorraine Becker on October 23, 1945 at the St. Lawrence Church in Faribault. Mr. Schema farmed for most of his lifetime in Wells Township. He continued farming even after moving to Faribault in 1984. He was a board member for Rice County Mutual Farm Insurance, and a member of the Faribault Council 889, Knights of Columbus, the Faribault Aerie 1460, Fraternal Order of Eagles and the St. Lawrence Society. He enjoyed playing the saxophone for various local bands, most notably the Toe Teasers, who played for many parades and nursing homes.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Schema of Faribault; by three sons, Robert (and Linda) Schema of Faribault, David (and Mary) Schema of Waseca, and Ronald (and Deborah) Schema of Faribault; by 6 grandchildren; by 2 great grandsons; by a brother, Roger (and Geraldine) Schema of Faribault; and by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
