Agnes was born July 6, 1909, on the family homestead near Bergen, ND, to Ole and Emma (Winje) Bergstad. She attended country school and later became nanny to her sisters children.
Agnes married Halstein Berge in 1930 and together they farmed in McLean County and after moving to Velva, ND farmed in McHenry County and Ward County. Their wheat fields were vast and beautiful. They were always interested in the newest farming technology. She enjoyed having her children and close friends around her.
After retiring in 1975, Mr. Berge died in 1977. They had traveled to Norway to visit family, friends and the local color of Halsten's birth home of Oslo.
Agnes' interests turned to growing beautiful flowers and was especially fond of pansies. She loved to read and was a fan of Jeannette Oke's books. Always by her side was her youngest daughter caring for her during her declining years.
Agnes is survived by her daughters, Marcy (Merle) Hystad, Gillette, WY, Patricia (Ronald) Heizelman, Velva, ND, Laurel (James) West, Apple Valley, MN, and Linda Berge, Minot; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Roy, Floyd, Bernard and Harry; sisters, Alice, Ocelia, Clarice and Harriet.
