Billy was born in Sherman, Texas the son of Mr. and Mrs. Noel Watson. He was killed while serving in the Army, by enemy action in the Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart Medals.
Billy was a graduate of Sherman High School, class of 1963. He worked for a local gas station before entering the Army on 22 October 1965. He received his military training at Fort Polk, Louisiana and Fort Bliss, Texas.
He was survived by his parents; one brother, Noel C. Watson Jr.; one sister, Joan Watson, all of Sherman; grandfather, Mr. C. Andrews of Whitesboro, Texas; and a number of aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held at Waldo Funeral Chapel, Sherman, with Dr. Tom Brandon, pastor of First Baptist Church and an Army Chaplain officiating.
Full military honors were accorded at the grave site by an Army honor guard from Ft. Sill, Oklahoma.
There were two entries on the local Sherman Democrat newspaper as follow:
SHERMAN SOLDIER KILLED IN ACTION – 23 August 1967, Pages 1 and 14.
RITES SET FOR SLAIN SOLDIER – 28 August 1967, Page 8
