Lyda Benton, 73, of Ringgold, GA, died on Thursday, September 29, 2005 in Dalton, GA.
She was born in Ringgold on April 26, 1932, and lived in Ringgold until 2001, when she moved to Dalton.
She graduated from Ringgold High School and Edmondson Business School. After graduation from business school, she worked for a number of years at Ferger Brothers & Huffaker.
In the early 60s, she was recruited by The Franklin Life Insurance Company, where she enjoyed a long and successful career in sales and agency management. At the time of her retirement in 2000, she had become an area manager and had her own agency, Lyda Benton & Associates.
Lyda was the "First Lady of Franklin," a life member of Franklin's Million Dollar Roundtable, First Lady Centurion of the Year, and past president of the Chattanooga Life Underwriters Association.
She was an active member of the JOY Sunday School Class, church clerk, Sunday School teacher and youth worker at Boynton Baptist Church in Ringgold.
She was from a prominent North Georgia family and was preceded in death by her parents, Grover Cleveland Benton and Willa Bowman Benton; brothers, Lewis Benton, Roy Benton; sisters, Velma Benton Williams, Jimmie Benton Warren; and nephews, Franklin Benton Miller and Paul Randall Benton.
She is survived by her sister, Lorena "Jackie" Miller of Williamsburg, MA; brothers, Clarence Benton, Lafayette, Paul Benton, Ringgold; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. on Monday at Boynton Baptist Church with Rev. Keith McLeod and Rev. Jim Hutto officiating.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Jennings, Dwaine Pruitt, Jake Bowman, Pete Bowman, Bernard Sims, Richard Huskey, Alan Miller, and Alfred Gracy. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the JOY Sunday School Class and the Ringgold High School Class of 1949.
