Mabel was the youngest of three daughters born to John Thompson and Volinda Eunice (Mitten) Sheffler. Her sisters were Pearl and Blanche. She married Milton T. McCarty on Oct. 15, 1902.

Mabel McCarty, the daughter of one of the oldest families in Frankfort and the wife of a well-known Frankfort doctor, died Thursday afternoon in Wesley Manor Methodist Home. She was 89. Death came at 1:50 p.m.
Mrs. McCarty lived in Clinton County all her life, having been born here in May of 1877 to John T. and Eunice Mitten Sheffler. She moved to the Manor in the autumn of 1965.
Her husband, Dr. Milton T. McCarty, died in 1938.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. McCarty is survived by a son, John McCarty of San Diego, Calif; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Anderson of Evanston, Ill.; three grandchildren: Dennis and Michael Anderson and Carol McCarty Bowen and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Goodwin Funeral Home, Dr. Howard W. Kipp officiating. Interment will be in Rossville Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Saturday.
