Thomas Alan Smith, 69, of 1118 Blockville-Watts Flats Road, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2010, in his home, surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born July 13, 1941, in Watts Flats, the son of the late Milo M. and Pansy May Reed Smith Sr.
Tom was a 1960 graduate of Panama Central School, and was drafted into the U.S. Army serving with the 11th Air Assault Division from 1963 until 1965. He was a proud veteran. Prior to retirement, he worked at B.R. DeWitt Concrete, and was a member of the Teamsters Union, receiving the million mile safe driver's award.
Tom was an avid gun and tractor enthusiast, known as "the tractor man.'' He loved to tell stories, wheel and deal, and ride his motorcycle. He spent 23 years in fellowship with Alcoholics Anonymous.
Surviving are his wife, Maria Castronova-Smith, whom he married Aug. 24, 1996; a daughter, Mellissa Smith of Jamestown; two sons: Marc A. Smith of Conesus, N.Y., and Thomas J. Smith of Mesa, Ariz.; stepchildren: Melissa Courter of Verona, N.J., and David Marciniak of Castle Rock, Colo.; eight grandchildren: Brandon Hawley, Kira Hawley and Kyle Hillyard, all of Jamestown; Jessica (Kenneth) Simons of San Diego, Calif., Kristen (Shawn) Abers of Panama, N.Y., Theresa, Jacinta and Cecilia Courter, all of Verona; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers: William W. (Patricia) Smith of Ashville, and J. D. (Chloe) Smith of Jamestown; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Minnie Bear.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: James Smith, Arthur Smith and Milo M. Smith Jr.; and two sisters: Betty Smith and Ann Smith.
