Ambrose Carlin

PLEASANT VALLEY, Iowa -- Services for Ambrose Joseph Carlin, 81, of Pleasant Valley, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Bettendorf.

Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park. Graveside military services will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post 246.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Halligan-McCabe Funeral Home, Davenport.

Mr. Carlin died Tuesday, July 29, 1997, at Genesis Medical Center-East Campus, Davenport.

He was owner and operator of Valley Inn, Pleasant Valley, for 30 years, retiring in 1978.

He was born Nov. 1, 1915, in DeWitt, to Frank and Madeline (Callahan) Carlin. He married Mildred Eckert on Nov. 18, 1939, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Davenport.

He served in the Army in Frankfurt, Germany, during World War II.

He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

His hobbies included fishing, golf, gardening and sports. He received the Racine Trophy in basketball for Most Valuable Player for the Davenport School District while a senior in high school.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; daughters, Patricia Ann Happel, Cambridge, Ill., Frances Devlin and fiance, Allen Hartz, Pleasant Valley, and Margaret Champion and husband, Steve, East Moline; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael J. and Katheryn Carlin, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Kathleen Ann and husband Mark Nutt, Michael Ambrose Carlin and wife Ann, Randy Scott Carlin, John Daniel Devlin and wife Keli, Marcy Lynn and husband Bryan Miller, Stacey Rachel Happel, Renee Marie Champion and Kelly Lynne Champion; and great- grandchildren, Breanna Carlin, Beth Ann Carlin, Samuel Nutt, Alexys Devlin, Creighton Devlin, Brandon Devlin, Randy Lee Lewis and Riley Scott Carlin.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Rusty and John.

Mr. Carlin was a very special father and grandfather, and a wonderful family man.
