3 May 1916 Birth of daughter, Twyla Mary. Piqua, OH. When she is but 3 months old, the family moves to Toledo. (Another job offer in Alaska had been available, but his wife Oretta refused to move so far away.) [as told by Twyla BLUM]

In Toledo he goes to work as a stone cutter for the Lloyd Brothers, located at Auburn and Central Street across from Woodlawn Cemetery. When he was working for the Lloyd brothers, the old man asked Charlie to teach his son the skills of stonecutting. The lesson started with the two cardinal rules of handling a stone hammer, (1) to not swing it too far back, and (2) to bring the tool down square on the stone. Mr. Lloyd's son, who had been college educated, ignored his teacher's lessons, ruining much raw material. It seems that the owner's son contributed much to the "pile over the fence", a phrase used to designate bad or miscut stone.

His career slowed as the country entered the Great Depression, after which age sent him into retirement.

RELIGION: Lutheran. Church in Toledo on Summit Street.

22 Apr 1967 His death resulted from his 94 year old body's inability to heal from a hip fracture he suffered from a bathtub fall. (Other family members will tell you that Grandpa died from a fall while working in his garden, but his daughter Twyla, who was closest to him, states that he died from injuries he sustained from a bathtub fall.)
