Annett was the daughter of Almond and Arethusa (Collister) Fryer, who were both born in New York state, and emigrated to Wisconsin about 1843. Then in the mid-1850s, they emigrated to Mower County, Minnesota. She married Lars "Lewis" Olson in 1868 in Mower County. He had emigrated from Norway in 1864. Their children's names were Carrie, Ole, Thomas, William, John, Frank, and Abraham. The first four were born in Minnesota, the last three in Lake County, Dakota Territory (now South Dakota). Lars and Annett moved from MN to South Dakota in the late 1870s.
