The Confederate service records show a Moses Chessir in both the 19th Arkansas Infantry (Dawson's) and in the 19th Texas Cavalry.
The records first show that a M.W. Chessir, 28 years old, joined for duty, enrolled, and was received into service as a Private in Captain Watson's Company, 19th Regiment Arkansas Infantry, by J.S. Roberson, on March 1, 1862 at Pike County, Arkansas.
This company subsequently became Company C, 19th Arkansas Infantry (Dawson's).
The records then show a Moses Chesshir, noted to be a Private in Company C of the 19th Arkansas Infantry (Dawson's), listed as having been admitted to the City General Hospital in St. Louis Missouri on January 22, 1863. Moses had suffered a gun shot wound to the left leg, fracturing the left femur. Moses, of Dawson's Infantry, is noted to have died on January 29, 1863.
The records also show a Moses Chesshir, noted to be a Private in Company C of the 19th Texas Cavalry, on a list of Confederate prisoners who died in the Department of Missouri. Moses, of the 19th Texas Cavalry, died of a gun shot wound on January 29, 1863 at the City General Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri.
We believe the Moses of Dawson's Infantry and the Moses of the 19th Texas Cavalry are one in the same person, and that the notation of the 19th Texas Cavalry is incorrect. There is no other record (enlistment, muster rolls, etc) of a Moses Chesshir serving in the 19th Texas Cavalry.
