MAGEE, Oct. 25 - Smith county lost one of its most influential and progressive citizens in the death of Anse Wayne Mangum of Mize, prominent planter of that community,
Mr. Mangum was a native Smith countian and was 81 years of age at his death. He was a pioneer citizen in the community in which he lived, and at the time of his death was one of the largest land owners in that section.
He was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist church and a devout christian.
Funeral services were conducted from the Sharon Presbyterian church by the Rev. Mr. Sumrall, pastor of the Shady Grove church, assisted by the Rev. D. W. Moulder of Sylvarena. Interment was in the Sharon cemetery.
Mr. Mangum is survived by four children: Mrs. K. T. Sullivan, her husband being Superintendent of the New Augusta High School of New Augusta; J. P. Mangum of Mize; Chester Mangum of Mize; Mrs. Fannie Henderson of Mize, and a host of relatives throughout Simpson and Smith counties. He had been in ill health for several months.
