Impressive funeral services were held here, Sunday, at the Baptist Church for Sam Reed who passed away (residing )in Pilot Knob and was (brought back) to P.A. Abernathy (unable to read)for services. Interment in Masonic Cemetery.
Several years ago, Sam Reed and family resided in Phillippi on the Marvin Pratt farm, and many friends, and acquaintances here are near here, have been very concerned about Mr. Reed's health since it was learned a few weeks ago, that he was ill and in a critical condition.
Samuel Brown Reed was born August 8th, 1847 and departed this life January 25th (or26th), 1935 at the age of 87 years, 5 months, 17 days.
Mr. Reed was united in marriage to Delia (Adelia) Kirkland in about 1871 (October 20, 1872) who preceded him in death July 1916. To this union were born 12 children-6 of whom survive, namely, Samuel and Robert of Belleview, Mrs. Dollie Bennett of Roselle, Mrs. Julia Nevins and George of St. Louis, and Anthony of Pilot Knob (MO). Sarah, Joseph, Araminta, Jasper and Willie, infants who preceded him in death.
Mr. Reed professed faith in Christ about 1907 and joined the Baptist Church at Phillipi in Wayne County (MO). He was a member of that church until the year of 1922 when he transferred to the United Baptist Church at Big Creek in Iron County. He enlisted in the Civil War, October 7th, 1863 at the age of 15, as a musician in Co. G, First Missouri Engineers. He was discharged January 18th, 1865, disabled.
The deceased married the second time to Catherine (Sherrill) Swearingen of Hogan, MO, October 31, 1918. She died May 1923.
On the 9th day of March 1924, he was married to Catherine (Miller) Schrum of Redmondville. With her he lived his last years.
