Son of Goulder & Rebecca Louisa Ford Harman. He enlisted July 7, 1862 as a private in Co. D, 58th Regiment, North Carolina Infantry (State Troops) He married Malinda Cook abt. 1866 and they had 12 known children: John Calvin, Rebecca Louisa, Delphia Evelyn, William Monroe, Mary Jane, Wiley Smith, Abner Betherd, Eliza Eudine, Avery Emanuel, Martha Caroline, Edmund Marshall and Benjamin Harrison Harmon.
