Rev Jonathan Davis Chastain was born on May 22, 1803 in Pendleton District, South Carolina. He married Rachel Stover on Dec. 26, 1822 in Habersham County, GA and they had 13-children:
Mary Melvina, Sarah Caroline, Nancy Elvina, Hannah Minerva, Martha Ann, Rebecca Matilda, Rachel Jane, Joseph Pearson, Wilson Lumpkin, Jacob, Jonathan Kimsey, Walter and Benjamin Webb.
During his ministry he helped establish Goshen Baptist Church, Dawson County and Ebenezer Baptist Church, Gilmer County and served as Pastor from 1845 until his death on November 28, 1847.
