George Washington Austin was born 23 June 1832 in Russell County, Kentucky. He married first 1 October 1851 in Lincoln County, Kentucky to Nancy J. Richards, born in Lincoln County. Nancy died 23 April 1854, and George remarried on 27 December 1854 to Catherine Inyart (Inyard), born 1 February 1823. George was a Civil War soldier, was captured by Confederates at Vicksburg, Mississippi, and sent to prison in Tyler, Texas. He made whiskey in Eubank, Kentucky. George died 1896 in New Salem Road, Lincoln County and is buried in Estes Cemetery (no stone).
