Roy Lee Bateman, 82, of Kimball, died Tuesday November 11, 1980 in a local hospital following a short illness.
Born May 14, 1898 in Patrick County, Va., he was a son of the late Cabel H. and Bertie Lou Bridgeman Bateman. He had been a resident of Freeman-Bramwell for 27 years and was a retired coal miner,. He was a member of UMWA Local 6183 at Algoma.
Survivors include his wife, Dora Lee Shonder Bateman of Freeman; four sons, Kenneth Bateman of Mount Airy, N.C., Bobby Bateman of Shady Springs, Jimmy Bateman of Davin, and Franklin Bateman of the home; one daughter, Beatrice Bateman of Leesburg, Fl.; four sisters, Okra Puckett and Helen Sawyers, both of Mount Airy, Annie C. Royall of Thurman, N.C., and Grace Gwynn of Ararat, Va.; two brothers, Monroe Bateman of Mount Airy and Donald Bateman of Ararat; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. at the Cravens-Shires Chapel with Rev. Douglas Williams officiating.
Entombment will follow in Woodlawn Mausoleum at Bluewell.
Pallbearers will be Lemwell Wills, Stanley Kendrick, Stewart Osborne, Donald Brummett, Timothy Brummett, and Brian Davidson.
Friends may call at the funeral home today from 5 to 9 p.m.
