THE OKLAHOMAN (Oklahoma City, OK)
6/15/1916 MAN FOUND DEAD IN HOTEL ROOM (Thursday)
Body of J.M. Potts of Frederick Discovered Several Hours After Death

Two empty vials that had contained chloroform, a bottle partly filled with strychnine and a note directing the disposition of the body found in the Kingkade hotel, Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock led the police to believe that J.M. Potts, 30/50 years old, of Frederick, Okla., had committed suicide.

Lying face downward on the bed and dressed with the exception of hat, coat and shoes, Potts' body was found by hotel employes, who had entered with a pass-key after a maid had repeatedly knocked on the door and received no response.

According to Detective Charley Post and T.F. Donnell, justice of the peace, the man when found had been dead for several hours. The last time he was seen by hotel employees was Tuesday night at 10 o'clock when he appeared at the desk and paid his bill.

"Notify my brother, L.A. Potts, of Frederick, Okla.; he knows my troubles; bury me beside my boy in the Frederick cemetery; good-bye to all," said the note.

The body was taken to the Marshall & Harper undertaking parlors. L.A. Potts was notified of his brother's death. He sent a message saying he would come to Oklahoma City
Thursday morning.

An inquest will be held today.
