Henry Benjamin Chitty was the seventh of ten (or eleven?) known children of Charles Chitty (b. 1804; d. c1871) and Lucetta (Lucy) Schot (Schott) Chitty (b. 1810; d. c1870 (or 1889?)), who married c1830 in presumably North Carolina though a marriage record for them can't be located. It is not known where Charles or Lucy are buried, though possibly on their family farm in southern Forsyth County, North Carolina.

Henry married first to Susannah (Susan) Wesner/Weesner (1843-1874) on 08 Oct 1867 at Southfork Township, Forsyth County, North Carolina. Soon after marrying the family moved to the vicinity of West Salem, Edwards County, Illinois. Henry and Susan were the parents of four known children, namely:

1. John Norman Chitty (1868-1868)
2. Ervin Permaine Chitty (1869-1935)
3. Ellen Lenora Chitty (1872-1873)
4. Mary Alice Chitty (1874-1874)

After Susan died, Henry remarried to Susan's younger sister, Mary E. Wesner/Weesner (1857-1939) on 29 Dec 1874 at Richland County, Illinois. Henry and Mary were the parents of seven known children, namely:

5. Charles J_____ Chitty (1874-1876)
6. Minnie Victoria Chitty Terry (1876-1953)
7. Charles Jacob Chitty (1879-1931)
8. Ida May Chitty Simmons (1880-1958)
9. James Franklin Chitty (1885-1952)
10. Cora Kathryn Chitty Gadau (1888-1947)
11. Raymond Leroy Chitty (1894-1989)

After Henry died, Mary remarried to John C. Simmons (1851-1930) on 16 Apr 1902 at Richland County, Illinois, but had no additional known children.

Links to Henry's parents, both of his two known wives, ten of his eleven known children and five of his known siblings are included below.
