Mr. Leo Arthur Benson, 92, formerly of Clinton, NC died at Avemaria Nursing Home in Memphis, Tenn., Wednesday, September 2, 2009.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Sunday 9-6-09 at Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Louie Andrews officiating. Burial followed in the Clinton Cemetery.

Born in 1917 in Rome, NY, Mr. Benson was the son of the late Peter and Emma Poladek Hnatowsky. He was a member of Highland Heights Presbyterian Church in Cordova, Tenn and a former member of Graves Memorial Presbyterian Church in Clinton, N.C. He was a retired Police Captain with the Clinton, N.C.Police Department after 35 years of service. He was a Veteran with the U.S. Army having served in WWII. He was the widower of Margaret Moore Benson and Mary Louise Maxwell Benson.

He is survived by a daughter, Jean Bradshaw of Clinton; granddaughters, Teresa Bradshaw of Augusta, GA, and Gail Bradshaw of Clinton Grandsons, Glenn Bradshaw and wife, Robin of Clinton and David Maxwell and wife, Mary of Memphis, Tenn., great-granddaughters, Jennifer Williams and husband, Warren of Turkey, Debra Birch of Memphis, Tenn; great-grandson, Ryan Bradshaw and wife, Karen of Clinton, Kevin Maxwell of Memphis, Tenn; great-great-granddaughters, Jena Grace Williams of Turkey , Ava Bradshaw of Clinton, Kelsi Armstrong and Shelby Armstrong both of Memphis, Tenn; great great-grandson, Joseph Birch of Memphis, Tenn., two sisters, Olga Haritatos and Stephanie Skorobogaty both of Rome, NY; nieces, Dianne Reynolds of Rome, NY, Marilyn Schilling of New Hartford, NY and Chris Hnatowsky of Grandville, MI.; nephews, Fred Haritatos of Rome, NY , John Haritatos of Syracuse, NY and Keith Hnatowsky of Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Doreen Hnatowsky of Wyoming, MI.; great nieces and nephew, Mandy & Stacey and Bret.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie Hnatowsky and Raymond Hnatowsky.
