John Alvey, 72, of 1751 Hall St died at 1135am Tuesday. Born in Whitesville September 23, 1897, he lived in Owensboro most of his life. He was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and Modern Woodman. He was employed by Hodge Tobacco Company for many years. Survivors include his wife Gertrude Alvey, three daughters, Mrs Martha Mardis and Mrs Louise Damron, both of E Gary IN and Mrs Edna Mae Johnson of Gary, IN, three sons Johnny Ray and Donald P Alvey both of Gary and R J Alvey of Owensboro, two brothers Clarence and Arch Alvey both of Owensboro; four sisters Mrs Lillie Johnson and Mrs Minnie Thompson, both of Owensboro, Mrs Florence Moseley of Illinois and Mrs Virginia Luttrell of Rockport, IN. Services will be held at 10am Friday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church conducted by the Rev Robert Clements, pastor. Burial will be in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery. the body is a the Delbert J Glenn Funeral Home where friends may call after 2 pm to day. Prayers will be said at 815 pm Thursday.
