Linnie May (James) Gentry was the youngest child of Absalom B. James, Sr. (1834-1891) and Eliza Em (Townsend) James (1839-1919), both of whom were born in Ohio and died in Knox County, Missouri.

Linnie's parents moved from Ohio to Missouri in about 1860.

Linnie had the following known siblings:

Viola James 1871-1910

John M. James 1875-
Absalom James, Jr. 1877-

Linnie grew up on a farm in Knox County, Missouri. She lived with her parents and remained a spinster for most of her life. Her father died in 1891 and she cared for her mother until she died in 1919. In the January 6, 1920 census of Lyon Township of Knox County, Missouri, Linnie was listed as a servant int he household of an elderly couple, Enoch and Adeline Ross.

On February 5, 1920, Linnie married her widowed brother-in-law, Joseph Pulaski "J.P." Gentry. Linnie's sister Viola "Ola" (James) had married J.P. in 1892 and they had 5 known children:

Pearl James Gentry 1895-1926
Ella Mae (Gentry) Mangus 1898-1994
Walter Gentry 1900-1962
Irvin Gentry 1903-

J.P. Gentry had also had a wife previous to Viola who was Josephine Catherine "Kate" Kelly by whom he had two children:

Mary Anastasia Gentry 1885-1976
Rolla Bernard Gentry 1889-1957

Linnie was 41 and J.P was 65 when they married in 1920. They had no known children.

Linnie died in 1934 when she was 56 and J.P. in 1937 at the age of 83. Both are buried at Locust Hill Cemetery in Knox County, Missouri. Linnie's sister and J.P.'s 2nd wife, Viola "Ola" (James) Gentry, is buried at Mt. Tabor Cemetery in Knox County, Missouri, where Linnie and Viola's parents are buried.
