Buried Nov. 2, 2001; Sanford Cemetery Record.
Well known Alamosa educator, Ralph Kent Mortensen, 76, died Monday, Oct. 29, 2001 in Alamosa.
He was born on Sept, 8, 1925 to Randall C. and Helen F. McIntire Mortensen.
Ralph formally taught in the San Luis Valley Schools for 31 years. Those who knew Mr. Mortensen (as he was affectionately known by his students) knew that his commitment to teaching extended well beyond the walls of his own home, of the LDS church to which he was dedicated, and the formal setting of the schools at which he worked. All who knew him knew of his abiding love for God, of his commitment to peace and fairness, and as one who genuinely loved people and lived what he believed.
He is survived by his lifelong friend and companion, Donna June Mortensen of Alamosa, and seven children, two brothers and one sister, and 41 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
