"Danny C. Leuwerke, 54, of Thompson died unexpectedly on Monday, June 6, 2011....

Danny Curtis Leuwerke, oldest child of Curtis and Mary Leuwerke, was born July 28, 1956, in Britt. He attended school in Britt, Crystal Lake and Ventura, graduating from Ventura High School in 1974. Following graduation, Danny became involved in farming, a career he pursued and loved his entire life.

Danny's cousin, Randy Leuwerke, introduced Danny to Kathy in the summer of 1975. Danny and Kathy were married in 1977 and in April of 2011 celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary. They started their life together living east of Forest City until 1994, at which time they moved to their current home southwest of Thompson.

Danny had an immense love for farming, experiencing all that a life tied to agriculture has to offer, enjoying the challenges that each new day provided. An avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan, Danny had been able to more recently attend several games with Jeff and Brad, an occasion he looked so forward to that he insisted on being at the stadium at least three hours before anything started to ensure he missed nothing.

Danny had a knack for fixing things, whether it be a piece of farm equipment or the restoration of old tractors and cars. There wasn't much to be found that he couldn't repair.

Traveling had also become a hobby that Danny took great pleasure in. Whether it was a cross-country camping trip or a few hours away to meet with his sons and their family/friends, Danny loved being able to spend time with Kathy even if it was debating about how to get to where they needed to go after one of them (her name was the shortcut queen) had given a wrong direction 50 miles back.

Sadly, Danny and Kathy had several travel plans, along with many other future endeavors, that were cut short. However, he leaves us knowing that the years he did have were spent with a loving wife, two sons he raised well and a wealth of family and friends who cared a great deal for him.

Danny is survived by his wife Kathy of 34 years; two sons, Brad of Janesville, Minn., and Jeff and his wife, Beth, of Elk River, Minn.; his mother, Mary Trappe of Northwood; a sister Kathy Price and husband Brian; a brother Paul Leuwerke; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Curtis, and brother, Greg...."
