Born in Old Alegheny, Penn. Lyman Summerfield WIDNEY was named for a preacher of his parents, Charles Wilson WIDNEY & Mary Alexander GILSON. At the age of 17, his family removed to Ogle Co., Illinois to be near cousins HENRY 's and LOUGHRIDGE 's. Two years later he would enlist in Co. H, 34th Ill. Vol. regt., serving until the wars conclusion. His company would be at Shiloh, (Keokuk hospital), Stone River, Atlanta campaign, and Bentonville. After the war, he moved to New Orleans with the family of his brother-in-law, B.D. WOOD, who employed young WIDNEY in the coal business. At the home of Mrs. Lee Rowe in Baton Rouge, he would be married to Adele KORWIN/JAHOLKOWSKI. To them were born 6 children who would spread throughout the South where the young soldier had marched.
