William was the son John and Margaret Wilson LeGalley of Massachusetts. He moved to Ohio in 1819 with his parents who died a few years after locating in Lower Sandusky. William lived with an uncle in Seneca County for nine years and learned the tanners trade when sixteen. He married Abigail Terry in 1836 and had six children: Myron, John, William, Silia, Fanny who died at age six, and Charles. In 1856, he moved to Wood County and developed about 200 acres for farming and operating four oil wells. In 1860, William was elected Justice of the Peace. He was also school director for a number of years. He voted the Prohibition Ticket and belonged to the Baptist Church. William died in Plain Township at the age of 88 years 6 months and 4 days..
