The Amidons adopted Lura May Stearns and named her Lura Jane Amidon. She was born on June 22, 1861 at West Irving, Benton County, Iowa according to a probate adoption & name change record found on the familysearch website. In the 1870 census it states she was born about 1862. The age engraved on her headstone, 11 years & 10 months, put her birth in 1863.
