He made a Will dated January 27, 1786, which was Proved in Monmouth County, NJ., on August 12, 1788, in the Court of Monmouth County, NJ., which read as follows: 1786, Jan. 27. Cox, John, of Upper Freehold, Monmouth Co., son of James; will of. Wife, Mary, 1/3 the profits of the real estate. Son, William, farm south of Shrewsbury, where I live, given to me by my father, and 10 acres which was released to me by my cousin, James Cox; but, if he die without heirs, then to my grandson, Joshua Cox, son of my son, James; and, if he die, to grandson, Abel Cox, son of James. Grandson, Elisha Cox [listed in pounds sterling]; and, if he die, then to Abel. Son, James, land north of Shrewsbury, and after his death, to my grandson, Abel, son of James, and if he die to his brother, Joshua. Granddaughter, Wilhelminer [sic] Co, pounds sterling. daughters, Catherine, wife of Benjamin Loxley, of Philadelphia, and Mary, wife of Robert Jones, now in England, personal estate, Grandson, Robert Jones, 1,000 dollars. Granddaughter, Mary Jones, 1,000 dollars; two eldest daughters of Benjamin Loxley, Mary and Jane, legacies, Executors-friends, Elisha Lawrence, Jr., Edward Taylor, and my sons, William and James.
