Hugh J. Whitener, 79, Rt. 8, Hickory died Monday at his residence following a brief illness.
A son of the late Julius T. and Lola Abernethy Whitener, he was born Sept. 30, 1904 in Catawba County;
Surviving are his wife, Beulah Hildebran Whitener; two sisters, Lucille Whitener and Coline Forbes of Hickroy; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be conducted by the Rev. Homer Brady at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Hickory Funeral Home chapel. Burial will be in Mountain Grove Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will be at the funeral home from 7 until 8:30 today.
