Rebekah Matilda Forkner was the eighth of the eleven children of Reverend Isaac Faulkner/Forkner and his wife, Sarah Ellis/Elles. The family moved to Kingsport, Hawkins, Tennessee in 1830. On various documents, her birth location is reported as Virginia, North Carolina and/or Tennessee. Many of her siblings died young in Kingsport in the 1830s of typhoid fever.

On 18 Nov 1852, she married William Alfred Hutsell (1822-1866) in Scott, Virginia. They had Winfield Scott Hutsell (1853-1924), Eleanor L "Ella" Hutsell (1855-1924), and Emma Malinda Hutsell (1858-1928).
On 09 Jan 1866, Rebekah married Private William Dodson in Hawkins, Tennessee. They had William Forkner Dodson (1868-1920).
On 09 Sep 1883, she married Preston Clay Walker in Hawkins, Tennessee.
