SHREVEPORT, LA - Funeral services for Mrs. Doris Elizabeth Rinehart Jones will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Doug Burnley will officiate, assisted by Rev. Steve Caraway. Visitation will be Friday, from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Centuries Memorial Park.
Mrs. Jones passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2011. She was born September 19, 1921 in Choudrant , LA to the late L. J. and Docia Rinehart.
Mrs. Jones worked with her husband as a Class 4 radio operator at a Columbus, MS transmitter station. She then went on to work as a civilian clerk typist at Barksdale Air Force Base, and finally for Sears Roebuck for 35 years until retirement. She was a huge country music fan who personally knew artists spanning from Elvis and Johnny Horton to Tracy Lawrence, and was a part of the KWKH Louisiana Hayride family. Mrs. Jones would often sit next to Elvis' mother at the Louisiana Hayride. She was a true Southern Belle who loved working in her garden, was a loyal Houston Astros fan, and spent her life cultivating friends and nurturing friendships. But most of all "the old one" loved her family.
Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jack V. Jones; son, Jack V. Jones, Jr.; and two brothers, Kenneth and Mack Rinehart. She is survived by her son, George E. Jones and wife Yvonne; daughter-in-law, Jeanine Jones; three grandchildren, Michael Scott Jones and wife Julie, Cindy Smith and husband Steve, Scott McNeill and wife Cappi; five great grandchildren, Jack Parker Jones, Melissa Smith, Kristen Kay Smith, Shelby McNeill, Alexis McNeill; two sisters, Maxine Arrington and Louise White, two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Rinehart and Cloe Rinehart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
