Fern Louise Post, age 92, of Mount Horeb, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010, at Girlie's Manor in Mount Horeb. She was born Feb. 27, 1918, near Mount Horeb to William and Julena (Witte) Garfoot. Fern graduated from Mount Horeb High School. She married Walter Post on Dec. 27, 1941, and spent the first few years of married life in Texas where Wally was stationed with the U.S. Army. They returned to spend the rest of their years in Mount Horeb. Fern retired in 1983 after many years with the Mount Horeb School District Food Service program. She was a lifelong member of the Mount Horeb United Methodist Church and a 65 years member of the American Legion Auxiliary. Fern enjoyed league bowling for many years. Her family cherishes the beautiful afghans she loved to crochet and remembers her wonderful homemade jam. She enjoyed family time spent at the Lake Wisconsin cottage and the lake friends that became like family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Fern will be greatly missed by her daughters, Ann (Ted) Heidenriech of Lodi, and Karen (Dave) Cowles of Incline Village, Nev.; her son, Todd (Peg Irwin) Post of Chippewa Falls; granddaughters, Shelly (Tom) O'Brien of New Glarus, and Tracy (Bill) Klein of Madison; great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Jessica O'Brien, and Daniel, Jacob and Natalie Klein, and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter in 1989; a brother, Dale Garfoot; and a sister, Betty Booth. The family thanks the staff of Girlie's Manor of Mount Horeb and Hospice Care nurses for their care, support and compassion. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at the MOUNT HOREB UNITED METHODIST CHURCH with the Rev. Cherie A. Forret officiating. Private inurnment will be at Mount Horeb Union Cemetery. A gathering with family and friends will be held from 10 a.m. until 10:50 a.m. on Saturday at the church. The Ellestad Camacho Funeral Home 500 N. 8th St., Mount Horeb is serving the family.
