Ruth Behne, 87, of Cumberland, died Monday, April 3, 2000 at Cumberland Extended Care Unit. She was born on June 20, 1912 in the Town of Johnstown in Polk Co., to William and Minnie (Tismer) Helbig. Ruth grew up in the Pipe Lake area and graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1930. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she taught Saturday school and was active in womens groups. She was married at Pipe Lake on August 2, 1944 to Fred Behne. They farmed in the Town of Stanfold for many years. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband on February 16, 1984. She was also preceded in death by two infant sons and a brother, Laurence Helbig.

She is survived by one son, Larry (Claudia) Behne of Amery; one daughter, Janice (Bill) Manore of Roberts; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Cumberland, with Rev. Stephen Miller officiating. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery, Cumberland. Pallbearers were Josh Manore, Lisa Manore, Stephanie Behne, Krissy Behne, Natalie Behne, Ken Hagen and Jim Behne.

Arrangements were handled by Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland.
