Bessie was a native of Johnson County and a retired school teacher having taught at Major Elementary School and Addison Township School in Shelbyville. She lived most of her life in Fairland, Indiana and Shelbyville. She was a member of West Street United Methodist Church, Shelbyville and the church's Circle 1, United Methodist Women.
Bessie Briley passed away at W.S. Major Hospital in Shelbyville in March of '77. Bessie and her husband Edgar were laid to rest at Vienna Cemetery, with his first wife Jennie C. Briley's gravestone beside them.
