Local Lady Passed Away Ater Operation; Funeral Tomarrow
Mrs. Ida Brown, a life long and highly esteemed Oquawka resident, passed away at the Mercy hospital in Burlington at 6:40 o'clock Tuesday evening, March 13, 1934, following a serious surgical operation which she had undergone the previous day. She had been in failing health for about a year past and had been a hospital patient for five weeks prior to her passing.
She was an only daughter of Joseph and Gertrude (McOlgan) Spangler and was born on the farm now occupied by Luke Fullerton, a short distance north of Oquawka, on January 24, 1879, and passed away on March 13, 1934, aged 55 years 1 month and 17 days.
She moved to Oquawka with her parents when a small child and attened the local school.
On December 19, 1900 she was united in marriage to James Brown at the home of the brides parents and with the exception of a short time spent in the state of Kansas and in New Boston. Ill. thier married life was spent in Oquawka.
Four children were born to thier union, all of whom survive thier mother and are Mona Speer, Robert, Mrs. Mary Stewart and Miss Helen all of this place. Her husband preceded her in death in August of 1925.
Besidesher four children she is also survived by two brothers, J. J. Spangler of Oquawka and Charles Spangler of Quincy, and also a number of nieces and nephews and other more distant relatives.
Mrs. Brown was of jovial dispostion and was dearly beloved by a host of friends who extend deepest sympathy to the children in the loss of a very devoted mother.
She was united with the Oquawka M. E. church in her early girlhood and was a active worker in the church and Sunday school for many years. She became a member of the Tri- State lodge upon its organization here and held her membership at the time of death.
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church tomarrow (Friday) afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.
