Jean Lorella Pipes was born December 6, 1934 in Gibbon, MN, the daughter of Herbert and Irene (Fahrencamp) Wandersee. She attended school in Gibbon before the family moved to Sleepy Eye and then attended at St. John Lutheran School and Sleepy Eye High School. Jean was united in marriage to James Starrett on April 30, 1954. The couple lived in Mankato, Cambria, and Sleepy Eye where she owned and operated City Cafe. Jean married Robert Pipes on March 22, 1974 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Springfield and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, watching racing, playing cards, Bingo, and spending time with her family and friends.

Jean died on Saturday, July 14, 2007 at St. John Lutheran Home where she had been a resident since May of 2007.

She is survived by her children - Dan and wife Wendy Starrett of Kasota, MN, Melissa and husband Dan Lang of Springfield, MN, Sheila and husband Greg Nessett of Sleepy Eye, MN, and Steve and wife Ann Starrett of Mankato, MN; step-children - David and wife Lori Pipes of Kingford, GA, Roger and wife Deb Pipes of N. Mankato, Gail Pipes and Gary Schroedl of Moristown, MN, and Lori and husband - Danny Jackson of Independence, MO; a daughter-in-law - Cheryl Starrett of Mankato, MN; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother - Wallace and wife Charlotte Wandersee of Bloomington, MN; a brother-in-law - Larry Keyes of Tucson, AZ; and a sister-in-law- Eileen Wandersee of Wyoming, MN. Jean is preceded in death by her parents; husband - Robert in 1993; a daughter - Michelle; a son - Carey; a great grandson - Carter; a brother - Lynnca; and sisters - Shirley and Lois.
