Richard E. Josephsen, 63, retired Adair farmer, passed away Wednesday night at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic. He had been in ill health and was taken by the Adair ambulance to the hospital earlier in the evening. Funeral services were held Saturday morning, May 16, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, conducted by Pastor Mike Dagel. Mrs. Marvin Wedemeyer was the organist. Pallbearers were friends: Clarence Petri, Louis Bloom, Walter Peterson, Rex Stephenson, Terry Elgin and Leonard Jessen. Interment was in the Exira Cemetery. Richard Ervel Josephsen was born November 10, 1917 in Clarke County, Iowa, son of Carl and Martha Petersen Josephsen. He grew up in rural Clarke County where he attended rural schools. He farmed west of Exira until entering the military. He served four years in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was married October 1, 1946 to Helga Petersen in Atlantic. They farmed in Audubon and Guthrie counties until moving to Adair last year. Mr. Josephsen was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Survivors include his wife, Helga; two daughters, Sandra Wilke and husband, Jerry of Blair, Nebraska and Barbara Josephsen of West Des Moines; son, Allen Josephsen and wife, LeAnn of Adair; grandson, Benjamin Wilke and brother, Robert Josephsen and wife Letha Mae, rural Exira. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carolyn Sue and two grandsons, Chad and Jacob Josephsen.
