NEWARK: A funeral service for Vonna Scott, age 83, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 14, at the First Baptist Church of Heath, 525 South 30th Street, Heath, with Pastor Wally McLaughlin officiating. Burial will take place in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Scott passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2011 at her home. She was born August 15, 1927 in Ohley, West Virginia to the late Golden McClure Basham and Vivian (Bayless) Basham.
Mrs. Scott was a 1946 graduate of East Bank High School in East Bank, West Virginia and had been employed with the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company in West Virginia. She moved to Ohio in February of 1956 and had been employed with the Newark Credit Bureau and Keenan's Office Machines in Newark for several years.
Mrs. Scott enjoyed gardening, bird watching, shopping and raising her grandchildren. She attended the First Baptist Church of Heath and previously attended the Newark Nazarene Church. She had been a volunteer with the American Cancer Society and at the voting polls and was also a member of the PTO.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, David Neal Scott; three children, Deborah Sue Scott, Kathy Jane (John) Hannigan and David Neal (Karen) Scott II, all of Newark; grandchildren, Kayla (Mark) Gillham of Newark, Sgt. Amanda Scott of San Diego, CA who is currently serving with the United States Marine Corps, Nathaniel Hannigan, Megan Nicole Hannigan, James David Armstrong, Benjamin Albert and Kelleen Albert, all of Newark; sister, Betty Phillips of Rhonda, West Virginia; and brother, Dallas Basham, of Dunbar, West Virginia; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant sister and a sister, Dorothy Lee Basham; and three brothers, William Henry, Orlando and Golden McClure Basham Jr.
