Vera Lucille Hughes Conn of Weems, died March 26, 2003. She was born January 5, 1914 in Wellsboro, Pa., daughter of the late Gomer and Katherine Hughes. Mrs. Conn attended and graduated in 1936 from Potter Co. schools in Coudersport, Pa. with honors in music, bookkeeping and stenography. She was past president of the office girls club in Coudersport, Pa. In 1936, she married William Swanson, he died in 1961, and on September 26, 1964 she married Donald Conn. Vera was an avid golfer, loved to fish and play music with her own band. She was organist for King Carter Chapter OES No. 5, Kilmarnock and the Eulela OES Chapter in Pa. She was a charter member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church and a member of the Band Aides of Acca Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. In 1995 she was awarded her OES 50 year pin by Pam Kidwell. Mrs. Conn was a co-founder with Doris Tolson and Muffy Waring of Seconds UnLimited and was the first bookkeeper. Surviving are her husband of 38 1/2 years, Don Conn; two nephews and their families, Bob and Paul Cook of New York State. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at Currie Funeral Home, Kilmarnock, with a reception to follow at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with an Eastern Star Memorial Service at 8 p.m. Interment will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 in Sweeden Hill Cemetery, Coudersport, Pa. Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, c/o Norlan Shrine Club, Kilmarnock, Va.
